Post fuel leak in filter housing

I have a 99 ram 2500 with a stock engine. There is a fuel leak on the filter head where there is a sensor of some sort. What is the correct name for this sensor/switch ? Is there a way to fix/repair this condition. I believe this is the source for my 20 second crank time to get it started. I have to back it up the sloped driveway in order to make it start normal ??

This the one you are thinking of?

If so, it is the Water In Fuel ( WIF ) sensor.

Mine had a leak in the top of the housing. It is the fuel heater line. The one in the filter bowl is the WIF sensor.
There are a lot of ways to fix it but what I did was remove the housing (hardest part of the whole job) clip the wires that lead out of the heater about half way between plug and housing.
Remove the two screws holding the heater in. Remove heater. Replace Oring with a new nitrile one. put everything back together. Resplice the heater wires. Re install housing.
The whole thing took me maybe an hour and most of it was removing the housing and slowly figuring out what not to break.

Looking at that, it finally hit me, mine doesn't have the upper hole for the fuel heater ( duh, being a 12 valve it is on the pre-filter ).

I had always been told the 97-99 fuel filter housings were the same, but sure as heck, they aren't.

No matter how long you hang around these things, you are always learning something.
