FRont drive shaft.

Dealer says that my truckneeds a front drive shaft. The 4wd has been running rough I dont know if this is related. The front drive shaft goes from the t-case to the front axle and is only engaged in 4wd,Right??? You guys think that this is the 4wd issue.

Got about 85000mi on it. the drive shaft is covered under an extended warranty so the repair will only cost my deductible, but maybe I should have them check out the ujoints too. Now that I look at the invoice it says "Propeller shaft w/universal joints-Transfer case to front axle".

Fancy name for front driveshaft.

Twasn't made for constant turning, previous to 2002.5 they had a CAD, Central Axle Disconnect, so it wasn't turning all the time.
They kept the same design driveshaft which doesn't do well in full time operation.

Get it replaced since you have the warranty.

If you didn't have the warranty, I'd say seek out an aftermarket solution that is made for constant velocity.

Why did Dodge do away with the CAD? Mine has worked perfectly for 120,000 miles, using 4x4 two or three times a week.

I got mine from Tom Woods. www.4xshaft.com
Chose him because he's local.

There's also high angle driveline, don't know the website.

I understand they didn't use the CAD axle in 02.5 trucks because they were transitioning to the 3rd gen and were using whatever parts they could get to finish off the 2nd gens. At least you got the 7 year warranty. Mine (March 02 delivery) fell through the crack with a 3 year warranty and no CAD axle. Go for the new shaft.
