I have a simple question. Do the CTDs come from the Cummins factory with a Fleetguard oil filter or a Mopar filter? I changed my 02s oil a couple of weeks ago and noticed that mine had a Mopar filter on it. I bought the truck with 8 miles on it. It just struck me funny that a Cummins engine would come with a Mopar filter. Thanks for your help.

 

Mine came with a Mopar on it. Now it has a Fleetguard- much cheaper.

Thanks for the info. I put a Fleetguard on it, but I just wasn't sure why it came with a Mopar from the factory. I got to thinking about it after the guy at the Cummins distributor told me all their engines come from Cummins with a Fleetguard. Thanks again.....

 

All three of mine came with MOPAR filters on.

 

The Mopar filter is a Fleetguard filter. Fleetguard makes the filters for DC. If you buy one from DC they are expensive..if you buy it from fleetguard they are not.

 

Mopars come with mopar filters because its a stocking item at the build factory cummins in big rigs most times come with fleetguard filters or whatever the buyer ordered on the truck because each big rig is a custom order...unless a company orders a lot of trucks spec ed the same way<br><br>ever price a fleetguard filter at the *********** $$$$

 

DC would like you to buy their filter at their price. If they put a Fleetguard filter on at the factory, it would give away their &quot;secret&quot; that this filter is made by Fleetguard and can be had elsewhere for much less $$$, and make it impossible for them to sing their &quot;use only genuine Mopar parts&quot; chant with a straight face.

 

don't know personaly who makes the oil filters for DC. the only suggeston that i have is to make sure it is an approved filter by dc. i don't have they info to give t=you but i do know there is a tsb that lists them. they only thing i do know is when my dealership sent me to school, the instucter made a point to say is fram is not approved for the desiel motor because the glue inside will quikley come apart causeing the oil gallies to plug up.

It's worth the time to look at.<br><br>I notice Mobil1 is not a Cummins approved filter. It uses a synthetic fiber filter media, is highly efficient, and has a stong case and backplate. I checked locally, and the size for my ISB is about $12 retail. While that is a little more pricey than a Fleetguard Stratapore, it's far less than what I can buy an Amsoil SDF(which isn't approved either) at wholesale price. I think I'm gonna give it a try for my next filter change. <br><br>I'll see what my income tax return looks like this year. I may just conduct my own study similar to this one, on the approved filters for the Cummins ISB, and see how they pan out. BTW, does anyone know the stats of a Stratapore; micron filtration and % of efficiency?

 

With regards to Fleetgard filters. Which is better, Stratopore, Microglas, Cellulose? I am going to assume that Cellulose is the lower of the 3.

 

Homey, with your 02, you should be using the Stratapore filters only.

Lets see you could use the Mopar filter and do a oil and filter change every 5K and get at least 500K miles out of the Cummins or you can use the Stratopore at the same interval and you might get more miles. Just use one on the list and you will be OK. JMHO
