fixed a 24valve, it was being neglected...

my mother in law works for a roofing company, they have a 01 24v stock but they work it pretty hard. I went over to look at it because I have never seen under hood of a 24v. Well for starters the intake clamps on the intake horn were so loose they were letting all the boost out and had been loose for so long there was oil caked up inside the boot and tube... For second I decided to look at the air filter, that was a bad idea for a cummins lover... The stock filter had a 2" piece of foam with black caked on it.. I tore the foam off of it just to hope it would work a little better. I then checked the oil, again another bad idea. The oil was gel, when I say gel I mean would not even move on the dipstick and was BLACK. I told the manager (my mother in laws boss) that the truck needs some attn. All he said was "I thought they just drove like a dog" (he owns a ferd that is in the shop more than not, luckily its the companies and its still under warranty) Well he had the truck serviced (oil filter, air filter, and changed the oil) Well he I went and degreased the intercooler tube and boot then re-tightened them up. Next I checked the oil and it was black again but at least a little runny. I know it will eventually get better once they know it can run better but I just told them name their price on it so I could take care of it because they don't. By the way it only has 150k on it.

Why do you want to buy a neglected truck? Just cus it'd be cheap?

It Must have a strong VP if it is still running after all of that. I know a ton of people that run the crap out of these trucks with no regards to the fuel system and never have an issue, like my cousin 289k on original LP and VP and others that puke them out like crazy.

just like greasing u-joints hahaaha, the only guy on the block that actually puts grease in them every now and then is the only one that has to change them every 20k

That is the truth![verymad] You take care of the fuel system, use good oil and filters, treat her like a lady, and she still craps on you. But, "John" down the street rides her hard and puts her up wet, and she runs forever.[duhhh]

If "it runs like a dog", then guarantee you it's been running with a dead lift pump. Only reason they don't know is because they never change the fuel filter.

Very good point!

change the fuel filter for them, then let them see it doesn't run, then you will get it even CHEAPER. At that point you can mod it with the $$$ you saved and come back with a 500hp beast and show that ferd what a 2nd gen can do. :D
