a few newbie questions
a few newbie questions
What kind of fuel mileage should i expect from a 01, QC, 4x4, with stock size tires and 4:10 gears and 80K miles? I read somewhere putting a bigger sized tire on would do something like change the ratio and I would get better fuel mileage, is that true? I am also new.
Re:a few newbie questions
15 in town and 20 highway. These are unloaded of course.
It also depends on how much power you are asking from it.
1800 rpm seams to be the best engine speed for mpg.
Taller tires can help mileage at certain speed and hurt it at others.
I have a 4X4 auto with mods and have a best highway so far of 22.3 normal day to day is 17

I have a '02 with the 4.10 rears and 265x75's and the best I get on the highway is 17mpg. I average 16.2 driving around town. I have 25k on the truck now and it has pretty much maintained this from day one. I get roughly 426 miles on 26gal. of fuel.
I'm planing on going to 285's or 295's this spring to help with the mileage a tiny bit but more importantly to reduce some of the rpm's I yurn will easing down the highway @ 70mph

I have the same set-up with the 4;10s and my milage is no better than around 15.5 I drive a little heavy footed though. remember in much of the cold country that winter blend fuel is keeping the milage down right now. when the #1 is blended in with the #2 you get less energy and less MPG but also a lesser chance of the fuel gelling in the cold. Most of the posts I read say he best milage comes at under 2000 rpm for us that means 65mph and under. I have 285/75/16's and the bigger tires don't seem to help the milage more friction , wind resistance, weight etc...

With my current mods and no towing, I get about 18 combined average with the calculator. Close to 16 when playing.
Quick summary -
Best ever, bone stock, 24 on the highway with perfect driving conditions. With the calculator. After "breaking" the engine in with 50k miles.
Worst ever with the current mods and a heavy foot (no towing), about 16. Once again with the calculator.
I found a nice offset after adding the 35" tires (stock diffi gears @ 3.54) and exhaust + BHAF. Kept my average right around 19.
After adding the untapped Edge Drag Comp, well, uh, I ain't doing so well. Figure in the fun factor. But dang, that fun factor...
