Fan Clutch Locked Up
Fan Clutch Locked Up
My fan clutch has locked up on me. How much would Cummins charge to repalce this. I had one go out in my first gen and had it repalced at Ken Imler's shop in Sacramento. I could probably drive ouer there if Cummins charges too much. I would put it on my self but I don't have the special wrenches necessary. I remember Ken had quite a time getting old one loose.
fill out you sig. so we know what you are talking about. you will have to call a cummins dealer to find out what they will charge. hourly labor rates along with parts markups vary from dealer to dealer.
Skip the dealer and Cummins, you can get the clutch fron any autoparts. Don't remember the exact clutch price but it isn't bad, under $75.
With the right tools the repair should take about half an hour.

The hardest part of changing it is breaking the hub loose. I think it takes a
1 5/16 open end for the clutch and you have to hold the pully with a strap wrench or a chain wrench. It is a left hand thread too, so lefty tighty, righty loosey. I can generally do the job in a half hour or less, depending on the hub nut. Once I ran into one that was locktited together. I'd like to meet the mechanic that one.

I went to ken Imler's shop today and got it changed. Cummins localy would not do it, they sent me to Dodge, I knew that would be high. Ken charged me $162 for the part (Mopar) and $42 to insatll.
