Driveshaft Question...
Someone with a 6 speed/4x4/QC/LB tell me if your driveshaft is one or two piece, please.
I'm changing out my tranny this weekend for a NV5600 and NV241HD t-case, and would like to know what the newer trucks used for a shaft. Mine is two piece now, I think one would be an awfully long one. Thanks, Chris |
a guy i work with has an 04 qc 4x4 long bed and he told me his was a long bed.

I need to know about an 02-Prior 2nd Gen...Thanks, though.

My 2001 QC Longbox is a "two-piece" shaft. There is a u-joint at the yoke coming out of the transfer case, then a few feet (didn't measure for exact length) to a hanger bearing, then a "boot-covered" splice. Another u-joint behind the boot, and about 4 feet of shaft to u-joint at rear diffrential.
Hope this is what you were looking for. If it is, I can crawl under and get measurement for you, if you send me a pm. DuWayne |
That is exactly what I wanted to hear...it will be A LOT easier finding someone to cut the shaft if it all I have to do is shorten the first one.
If that makes any sense. I would think the one that angles down would need a bit more balancing than the other one. Now to find someone who can cut and balance a shaft on a weekend:D Thanks DuWayne, Chris |
You won't find a QC long box without a hanger bearing...

I kinda figured that, but wanted to double check.
I've got another favor to ask...the rear half of the shaft is probably the same between my truck and the newer ones. Could someone measure the tubes (just the part between the welded on yokes) and tell me how much I'll have to cut. I'm guessing that the back shaft, and all the yokes are the same. So all I should need is the tube length. The only way anything could be different is if the Pinion Yoke on the rear axle is different from 2500-3500. Thanks Again, Chris |
The front shaft is 18 3/4 and the rear is 32. This is measured weld to weld.

Thanks...that's what I was looking for.
