DIY FAST IDLE 99-24v

I built my own fast idle with a 10K ohm linear potentiometer (similar to a volume knob) and wired it parallel to the APS (which is also a potentiometer) It is wired with a switch to disable the circuit, and a bright red light so my wife doesn't try to drive with the fast idle switched on. Basically it fools the computer into thinking the accelerator pedal is slightly open. I have good idle control from 900 to 2000 rpm. I put 2K ohm resistor inline so that the fast idle could not take the throttle to wide open position. The only problem is that the Check Engine light comes on. I think the extra wiring is dropping the idle voltage slightly below spec. Has anyone else attempted this?

I built one simular for my F-350. I wired the ground to the parking brake so that it wouldnt activate unless the brake was set for safty reasons.<br><br>The only problem I had was that as the inside of the cab warmed up the resistance to the pot changed and increased the idle. So I would have to lower it as things got warmer. Once a sustained temp was reached it was very stable.

Update, Check Engine light went out, must have just triggered a trouble code when I wired the unit in, seems to trigger a fault code when voltage gets too high, current setup gives excellent fast idle control from idle to 1500rpm.

Sounds like a cool project.

LOL<br>I am interested in this as I see we have a -35 windchill today and much colder tonite. :'(

Aww.... just Duct Tape (Penguin Tape?) a couple-a birds to the lower radiator hose.(maybe a Blue sheep tucked in around the fuel filter).

Which wire at the APPS did you connect this all into??? We were looking into doing this as well this past weekend but we were debating about the wires...<br><br>Thanks,
