Cruise Control quit

My cruise control quit working the other day. No other problems, truck runs just fine. No warning lights or codes..

When I press the button to turn on the cruise, the light on the dash does not come on. Any suggestions where to start?

I looked to see if there was a fuse for the cruise control circuit, but i did not see any labeled as such., could a different fuse have blown causing the cruise control to not work?

I don't have any evidence of a vacuum leak, but even if I did have a leak I would assume the dashboard light would still come on..

Thanks for any replies

Thanks, I will look into it.

I just got out from under the dash,, brake switch looks fine. Not loose, no loose wires. Functions fine too,, at least the brake lights are coming on when the pedal is pressed

If the brake switch was a problem,.,, I would think that the light of the dash that normally comes on when you turn the cruise on would still illuminate though...

I know the cruise lets off if you step on the brake, but the light stays on. It's as if you pushed "cancel" and it will resume cruise control at the push of a button when working

Thanks for the tip,, any other suggestions for me while I'm poking around?

Hi there, did you ever find a solution for this problem? I have a 1998 12 valve that won’t illuminate the cruise on/off light on the dash either.

Check your clockspring, then check the cruise control module under the driver side battery .

Turns out my vacuum line was broken down by the servo, under the battery tray.

I had already replaced the clockspring; and by the way; I have had 4 of the clocksprings made by "DORMAN" fail. Love that lifetime warranty from O'Riellys but getting sick of taking the steering wheel off.

Diesleboy ---- I'm not sure if it is the same for 12v trucks; but google and youtube search for this and you'll find a lot of information about the failed vacuum line; looks like this is a very common problem. But as I understand it, if your problem is a broken vacuum line your dash-light will still turn on.

Here is a youtube video about the broken vac line.

Sixslug;

The 4x4 light is on the instrument panel (IP) on my truck. Kinda of in the middle/bottom.

My cruise-control light is also located in the IP. If memory serves me correctly it's on the bottom row and to the left.

Here is a video showing how to run a test on your IP; it's kind of blurry but you can see all the lights turn on and check for functionality of your IP.

Sorry Matt, I was thinking of the cruise light. Both my other rigs have a green speedo looking light that comes on when cruise is active. My truck just says cruise under the odometer in orange whenever the cruise is armed......
