cracked exhaust manifold

i've got a 1999 and it has two cracks in the manifold. what are my options, going back stock, aftermarket perf,or other. also give company info on other brands. thanks

You could go with ATS or HTT to get an aftermarket exhaust manifold. They both have a 3 piece design that will absorb the thermo stress that is applied to the manifold. This will keep them from cracking in the future and will also provide more exhaust flow. I would definitely contact ATS or HTT and just get an aftermarket manifold.

the first question, how long do you intend to keep the truck?
if you are using it for competition, then go for an after market 3 piece
i have close to 200,000 miles on the original, but then i don't pull or race

I'm happy with my ATS.

I also went ATS - http://www.xtremediesel.com/browsepr...-MANIFOLD.html
ATS 3-Piece 24 VALVE EXHAUST MANIFOLD

Don't go stock -- they are known to shrink up to 3/8 inch in the center - did it once - they'll do it again.

Also another question is how much are you looking to spend? A used manifold can be picked up for cheap, Ive seen them as low as $40. Or you can go all out and get a ceramic coated 3 piece for a large chunk more. Just a thought.

Agreed! Two choices. Many used late 01 & all 02 manifolds out there. They are much stronger metallurgy and have very few cracks!
$90-$100 is the usual price I see... for these stronger units.

I love my HTT 3 piece, preassembled manifold. Their install kit ($40.00) is well worth it to eliminate extra trips to the hardware store.

My '01 manifold cracked in 3 places. Replaced it with an HTT. It was not a difficult job. The manifold was not inexpensive. I got mine from New Era Diesel.

with the new HTT or the ATS, do you see any power increase,or possible fuel mileage increase?

Dexter 09-25-2007 09:42 PM

If your truck is bone stock, I would be willing to say that your not going to notice a difference in power or fuel increase, but it would give you more flexibility in the future for power upgrades.

I would not buy one for those reasons. Some claim better breathing & performance but I never noticed anything substantial.

I found my turbo spools WAY better/faster with my ATS.

Though my manifold was almost cracked in half and leaking pretty bad, so just sealing that up may have been part of that.

someone tell me what is the best chip or tuner for fuel mileage?
