correct replacement altenator

1998 1/2 2500 24 valve communs with factory altenator, has never been replaced. picked up a carquest alternator at advanced auto and the connectors plug in, the factory ones on the truck bolt on, the pulley is for 8 ribbed belt which is what the truck has. Took that one back and got what I thought was the correct one and this one has the correct bolt on connectors but a 5 ribbed pulley and a sticker that states this altenator is regulated by the ecm computer.
What now??

Swap the pulley?

The ECM does control the charging, and if the plug in is the same, you should be OK. There were many years that will fit if you have the 8 rib pulley.

I ran an alternator off a 1998 Grand Cherokee for years on my 97.

Remans don't always come with the right pulley, usually need to swap with your old one. Hopefully they haven't shipped your old one back. I have used tools right in the store to swap them at time of purchase.
