Coolant temperature idiot light?
Does my 99 24valve have a water temp idiot light?
If so then it doesn't work, as trucksruns low on water at times, ( thanks
cummins for that crack in my block[ , water temp gauge will go way over 230, but no warning light or audible 'ding,..
Thinking of adding an idiot light , if the truck doesn't have one. Thanks

You actually want a LOW coolant light not a high temp light, When an engine loses coolant there isn't enough coolant to circulate so the temp gauge doesn't show the correct temp and neither would a high temp switch for an idiot light.

Once your coolant temp gets too high, it should activate the "Check Gauges" light and have an audible ding. I know I've see it on my 2001 and I had a buddy with a 99 that would get it pulling heavy in the summer whenever his thermostat would start to fail.

Not sure Cummins warranted coolant level......
Fix the leak would be my advice,,,and check the coolant level often.
Seems easier than installing a light...

Busboy is correct, I need a low coolant light, as I have ran it low on the first time that I discovered it was losing coolant. As the temp warning light will not come on, if there isn't enough coolant in the engine.
I am going to transfer the washer fluid low indicator sensor to the coolant reservoir.
Six slug, "no cummins will not warrant cracked blocks which cause coolant loss. I have tried everything I can as far as additives, and It is currently is down to having to add a gallon every 1k miles. Which I can live with. As the only way to fix it 100% is to change the block.
I don't have the time or money to do this, I just want a simple reminder to add coolant, if my wife is driving it, etc

The first part of the engine to see a coolant drop is usually the highest point. I had a car that had one mounted up high on the radiator side. I might suggest installing one in a heater hose.
