Code 1694 and 1698 Help!!!

I am working on a friends truck and he had the 216 and 1693 code so i changed the vp 44. He forgot to tell me the tach was acting goofy, sticking in spots and flat out not working at times. When the tach works the truck revs to the redline fine but when it sticks or acts up the truck will only rev to 2000 or so. I checked the codes and found the 1694 and 1698 are these tach related? Does the ecu need the tach signal to rev up? I was going to change the sensor under the vp 44 is this the correct one? The truck is a 2001 automatic 235 hp truck. The lift pump is ne aswell. There is also a check engine light on .

Please help

Steve

i had the same codes and all it was some wires were rubbing on the dipstick and grounding out. so check for loose connections or bare wires grounding out on something. check the plugs right above the dipstick.

hope this helps, dieselfan

Steve...

The cam sensor is the the only tach signal on the newer truck. Before then it was the crank sensor. But I would give that a shot at changing out the cam sensor.

But as for the to error codes...

P1694 (M) No CCD Messages received from ECM

P1694 Fault In Companion Module No CCD/J1850 messages received from the powertrain control module-Aisin transmission

P1698 No CCD/J1850 Message From TCM No CCD/J1850 messages received from the electronic transmission control module (EATX) or the Aisin transmission controller.

I would check all the wiring from the transmission, PCM, and double check your hook up of the Injection pump just to be safe...

As per my '01 manual:

P1694 - No CCD Messages recieved from ECM - Bus communication failure to PCM

P1698 - No CCD Messages recieved from PCM - Bus communication failure to PCM. A "Companion DTC" was set in both the ECM and PCM.

The CCD is the communications bus that carries communications between the ECM, PCM, FPCM, and all the sensors. As stated previously, you've probably got a wiring or connector problem, but a bad sensor can also cause communication problems.

Big mistake in my information. Sorry.

The CCD bus is the communications to the instrument panel, and has nothing to do with the FPCM and sensors. It's doubtful a sensor can be a cause of a communication problem here.
