Clutch fork
 
Hey y'all, I am in the middle of a clutch job on my '01 2500 5-speed. I was having trouble disengaging the clutch, and had to stop the truck to get it into gear from a stand still.

I pulled the tranny off to find that the clutch itself is fine (I'm thinking I'm gonna change it anyways now that I've done all the labor). The problem is that the pins that held the thrust bearing to the fork broke off and the TB slid sideways on the fork and jammed crooked. I can't find any info about this happening to anyone else. I'm wondering what might of caused that to happen. There is a little bit of play on the input shaft, just maybe .005-.010" seemed normal though.

I just don't want to put it all back together to find that I need to change the input shaft or something random. Any help would be wonderful. Thanks.

Sounds to me like it's just worn out. Make sure there's no abnormal wear marks on the nose where the throwout slides, or on the fork for that matter. Make sure you replace the pivot ball if it's pointed instead of round. Light coat of grease back where the throwout bearing slides when it goes back together.

If the clutch is in good shape, low miles, and does what you need then why change it? Its not that hard to get everything apart. Not "easy" but not hard enough to justify spending that much money.

I'd replace the fork, the TB, the pilot, and the pivot ball and spring though. :thumbsup:
