Clutch
Clutch
How long is the average clutch change for most of yall, is it a good idea to have your flywheel turned while it is out of the truck? Is it a day job or a weekend job?
It's between a 6 to 8 hour job depending on what all you have to do while it's apart. Check flywheel for scoring and cracking. If you see any reface it, If the cracks are deep, replace it. I would not start this job on a friday unless the truck is down now. You have to take the flywheel in to a machine shop to have it turned. Make sure you replace the pilot bearing and use a good hi temp grease on the bearing when you assemble it, but don't over grease it. Check the trans input shaft where the pilot bearing rides, if there is scoring or wear, you will have to replace it. Make sure the slave is not leaking, and replace the throw out bearing. It is easiest to remove the trans/t-case with a good trans jack as an assembly, If you don't have that luxury, remove the t-case first, then the trans. If you only have a floor jack to remove the units, first fill your refridge with beer and call a couple of your buddies to come help you. If you are close to me get tequilla. (vertigo or 1800 in juarez).
This job is pretty much straight foreward. you shouldn't have much to worry about. Good luck

How many miles on the truck??
My stock clutch has about 135,000 on it and seems to be biting the dust.
I expected more, but oh well.
I see you have some sort of fueling box in your signature, that'll kill it faster too. Towing heavy wears them as well.

I have a 99 quadcab dually only has 203k on the original clutch so far . The heavyest i tow is 7500-8k with a small fueling box i think we will see if it will go another season. The biggest factor on clutch life is the opperator!

1st 97 went to 153K miles....had been slipping with slid plate but had started acting right again....but I went and ahead and did a clutch because I had a #10 plate collecting dust.
Current 97 was @ 150K maybe? wasn't slipping, but I got a scream'n deal on a barely used DD.
