changing wheel hubs
 

i have to change my wheel hubs on my 2500, is there anything special about doing this, and does anyone know where the best place to get them. thanks

Looks straight forward, only thing to know is the torque value is 280 Lb/Ft. on the retainer nut.

Nope, whole hub like you have. Actually from the picture, it looks like you could replace just the bearings, they are retained to the hub by snap rings, but I don't see any loose bearings for sale, just whole hubs.

Looks like 192 each for Timkens at Rock.

Actually, on edit, I found what appears to be just the bearings for 73 bucks at Rock, under the wheel bearing tab, at the bottom, Timken part # SET814

Depends on how long you can have the truck down, and how much potential hassle you want, hub assy's while more, will bolt right on.

thanks patdaly, they've probably in there since the truck was new, maybe they won't be that bad

Shouldn't be bad at all, if you get the whole hub assy, literally it is remove the caliper, slide the rotor off, remove the big nut, slide off and reverse...............

There are 8 bolts that hold the bearing hub assembly to the rotor. Plus there is a tight fit between the hub flange and rotor, not press fit but with some rust it can be a challenge. According to service manual we're not suppose to reuse the hub nuts.

My 01 service manual doesn't indicate that. They do say do not reuse the retainer nut, which I missed the first time..... but manual indicates the rotor slips off the studs just like a 4WD did in 01.....

so is it bad to use the old nut, someone told me it's somewhere around 280 ft lbs of torque, would these be a dealer item

i had mine done on my y2k bye a professional truck mech. Hubs bearings and he had big heavy air tools and it was a fight. I would try to put some lube on it ahead. Good luck with it. I got my Timkins from rock

ordered mine from rock,should be here anytime, i'll let you know, i guess i ain't got enough sense to take it to a shop, according to my wife

got the hubs, went to the dealer and ordered the nuts, they were castle nuts, the parts guy seemed to think they were right, turns out these things are teflon lock nuts, the castle nuts were $37 each, i can only wonder what the right ones will cost, does anyone know where i can get these teflon nuts

Typical parts guy, he gave you nuts for the 4WD axle, list is 37 bucks each.

See if he gave you 04746773.

You need 2 ea. 06505007AA, list is $ 15.20 ea, moparpartsamerica has them for 10.92 ea, but by the time you screw around with shipping, it is probably as easy to get them from your dealer.

what did you look under with mopar parts america can't seem to find them
