Carter direct replacement lift pump
Carter direct replacement lift pump
Does anyone have any experience with the bolt in direct replacement lift pump from carter? My truck is an 01, completely stock and will most likely stay that way. I don't need one yet, (only 15K miles) but now I'm paranoid because I see all the trouble everyone is having. Yes I have a fuel pressure guage and find myself watching it like a hawk!! Thanks in advance.
If your talking about Carter part number 74213, the direct bolt in replacement for our lift pumps, I have one in my truck and it has been the best replacement pump so far.
No matter how hard I beat on my truck, either towing or playing, I can't get the fuel pressure to drop below 11psi.
And it is a "direct" replacement. all banjo's bolt on, pigtail plugs in, no muss or fuss.
I carry a spare under the seat just in case but have never even come close to needing it fuel pressure wise.

You mind telling us what you paid for this rare beauty?
I bought mine two years ago last October with 30,000 miles on.
Luck, there may be three or four more of those left in the WORLD.

I'm new here at this site, and I'm learning a LOT...! But one thing is kinda confusing. Maybe it's termonology, but it's this "pump" thing that has me scratching my head.
I have been reading about injector pumps, lift pumps, in tank pumps, fuel pumps, bolt on pumps, etc, etc, ranging in price from $120 to $2000. How many pumps does this truck have....?????

Oh, okay, gotcha.
The sig only displays once because a while back people used to have mile long signatures with 10 links, pictures of their trucks and families, and the $10,000 dollars in mods they had on their truck. Now, it just displays once.
Ignore the thread from Superduty, that has to do with newer trucks. He's in it knee deep with about three other members about different delivery pumps, you should only need to know the basics here.
You might want to search some specific words,(Lift Pump, VP 44 failures, Lift pump replacement) or even look in the tech facts section on the top of the page to decipher some of the lingo.
The trick here is that your truck has two (2) pumps. One is a rather cheap ($100.00), the poorly designed and located "lift" pump that brings the fuel from the tank, through the filter and to the Injection Pump (aka VP 44). The VP 44 is the expensive one, about $1,100 plus a 4 hour install.
