CA smog- replacing ha HO vp 44 with SO vp44?
does anyone know if i would fail a california smog test visualy or by scanning or any other means if i were to replace my factory HO vp with a SO vp from midwest or blue chip? also curious if even replacing it with another HO vp 44 from these companies would cause me to fail the smog due to the vp being aftermarket? my ho vp has failed and i need to replace it ASAP, just dont know what to replace it with. I'd rather replace it with a SO pump but not if i cant pass smog. thanks!

They look for mods and a snap test. They will look for everything to be stock but that dosent mean they look at serial numbers on the vp. If you live in central Cal I can tell you a good smog shop. They also scan for codes.

It should pass.
I replaced a VP on a 1999 I had litteraly 2 days before I sold the truck...obviously it was a SO pump and put a SO in...the tech didn't even look...besides the APPS sits on top of the pump so really there isnt much they can see.. Unless you got a chrome diped VP...[laugh][laugh] they all pretty much look the same. As for codes...once you install the new pump...reset the codes and if there isnt one stored it will not have a problem... BTW..diesel trucks DO NOT NEED a cycle to complete or meet parameters like with a gas OBD II vehicle... Reset codes....and take it in....it should pass. NCA |
So the so pump shouldn't throw codes? I need good smog place in sonoma county (northern CA)

the shop that did my smog check in so. ca. didn't look to that extent. no snap test that I noticed, just wondered around the truck and passed it. He did say that my truck in the book called for a catalytic converter, but told me the book was wrong and all was good. ED

and if your truck was a 98 12v Ca motor not only would it need a CC but also an EGR system NCA if it is a 24v then...you or the tech were correct...NO CC and really for that matter NO other SMOG equip. other then the Crank Case Vent. NCA |
