I need to R/R my evaporator and need a vacume pump to pull down the system, does anyone have a good recomendation for a good pump? I don't need a snap-on or anything that good, it will only get light use. I have also seen the phnumatic type, and have a cheap one from harbor frieght, but have heard they are not that effective? I don't want to get it all apart and have to hold up the job waiting for a good pump!

The pneumatic ones are not very effective plus you would need a really big air compressor to provide the volume of air needed. Robinair makes a good vacuum pump and there are quite a few on Ebay for sale at reasonable prices. Another possibility: The Autozone here will let you borrow one. Don't know if they all do that or not, but if so, you can't beat that!

 

I bought one a few years back at a pawn shop, the way the economy is falling I'd think the pawn shops will be filling up with all kinds of stuff.
