BRAKES, BRAKES, no BRAKES ( UPDATE )

I am having a intermitent brake problem . When I am going slow and apply the brakes it feels like the booster is not working and the truck seems hard to stop . this only happens about every 100 stops then it is back to good brakes . It has 4 wheel anti lock brakes disk front and back. pads and rotors look good . fluid has not gone down, power steering fluid is full , and no leaks have I found .
Any suggestions, can this be diagnosed with a scanner ??

They are Hydro-Boost power brakes driven off the PS pump, I believe.
Don't think any codes will show up...

I had the same thing. It turned out to be the rear pads had come apart. I always looked at the pads through the tire to see the condition. But the pins the caliper floats on had seized up and the pads on the outside had hardly any wear and the pads on the inside were doing all the work. It destryed the rotors as well as the pads. The pads on the inside still had lots of life left but had come of the steel plate. You might want to take the tire off and have a realy good look at the pads if you havent all ready. Hope this helps

I did have the wheels of and the pads and rotors looked good . but maybe I will take them apart and have a real good look . it seams to be getting more frequent so it may be easyer toi find. I was thinking that the hydro boost would not show any codes. I have taken the truck down the road at 50+ and hit the brakes it stops real good but when you are creeping up and stop slowly it will feel like no power brakes and if you push hard it does stop . it allso has a ruff feel in the peadel when this happens.

I'll keep an eye on this one. I've got the same problem you have...although I have drums in the back.

When you hit the brakes at times, you can feel everything grab, then it's almost as if they just release. You can press harder on the pedal, but you're just not getting the normal stopping power. I upgraded to the GM wheel cylinders, so when they're grabbing you can feel it grabbing harder in the back, but the issue is still there.

Have you noticed any change in the way your power steering is acting? Mine feels fine usually, but I have noticed some instances where I get a dead park steer condition. Figured the two issues might be related.

I have not had the wheel sensor off, but the outher owner might have .
I got the truck used and the steering seams to be harder than it should be but I am getting used to it . yesterday it seamed like the peddel was pushing back for an instant . I am trying to get as much info as I can , I realy don't want to start throughing parts at it . If it is the hydro boost I am not sure I can change it as my helth is not that good to be climbing over and under the truck .

I would pull the wheel speed sensors and wipe the tips clean it takes about 15 min.per wheel with the right tools(air) and reinstall take the wheel off then the 2 bolts that hold the whole brake assembly to the yoke . under the dust sheild is a wire that gos to the hub the sensor is held on with i think a 4mm might be wrong on size allen bolt. try and clean the tip and re install if that dont do it you might have a bad sensor.
mine had a small and i mean small metal shaving on it prolly from when i did the ball joints earlyer
