brake perportioning valve 01 2500
Well I installed new rear brakes today an did the upgrade too the one ton chevy brake cylinders . I noticed when I tryed too bleed them the flow was restricked . I have a brake warning light on an a abs light on , then it hit me
oh! the brake perportion valve has kicked in while I had the lines loose . So how do I reset that ? Also for those of you who have upgraded too the one ton Chevy wheel clyinders did you just bend your original brake lines too fit or
make new ones ? On the Dodge cylinders the lines come in at a angle the Chevy goes straight in the middle , I picked these up at NAPA useing the P/n
someone posted on here . Anyway thanks for any tips you might send my way. George

Thanks ED but tell me When you got done what did you do when bleeding the system too get everything too reset an the lights out on the dash . Did you start at the master clyinder then do the
combanation valve then all four wheels .
combanation valve then all four wheels .

we have done three now, and all we did was bleed the rear brakes, we did not have the brake warning light go off on any of the vehicles, now don't ask about all the problems we are having with the baha bug and the turning brakes etc. left them and installed the motor and trans to take a brake (pun) from its issues.
maybe someone will chime in on how to reset the proportioning valve.????

i just did this a while ago. i also had to bend my lines to fit as they did not line up perfectly. had a leak on one afterwards and had it replaced with a new one. i also bled the entire system at the same time, but had no issues. i just started from the furthest wheel then made my way one closer each time. no lights, no problems. all seems well.
my only issue to note would be the pins that push on the shoes do not line up perfectly straight anymore, i think due to the larger cylinders. they seem to work ok, and it feels like they caught the dimples they are supposed to be in . . .

Thanks guys went to work an came home with bleeding everything on my
mind . Went out too the trk turned on the switch all warning lights cycled an went off an I had a good
pedal . Haven,t driven it yet had too go back too work . Another question when you adjust your brakes new shoes an drums do you adjust them untill you feel them touch the drum then back them off
untill they just stop rubbing ?

Thanks guys I noticed those push
rods not being exactly lined up too.
Ya know sorta doin my home work in reverse now, when I was looking
around on this bleeding issue . I seen on one site a clyinder that was made for the trucks that the line would hook up like the OEM .
But it wasn,t a GM part I think it might have been for a one ton Dodge . I,m back home now again an I will road test this thing today or tommorrow .

Well 67 I hit the road with it today. There is a difference but I would not say its huge . But if you,ve read much about this upgrade they say its most noticeable when loaded . I adjusted my brakes leaveing them with a slight drag , an they both
seemed about the same temp too the touch on short trips . As far as trying them out I was hauling some things today that prevented me from doing a real spirited hard stop.
I,ll let you know how that feels later.

ditto on the barely noticeable difference. the difference is greater in the earlier years - sounds like the dodge cylinders were upgraded in the later 2nd gens - then an even bigger cylinder if swapping to the GM cylinders. later years are a slight difference, but not obvious like the earlier years.
i notice better breaking loaded too, unloaded was a negligible difference, but certainly a night and day difference with a decent load (even in the later years)

Well tonight on the way home from the farm I darted into my turn
lane with a little to much speed . So I thought heres a chance to stand on these babys . An I must say I felt the difference when I really applied the pressure , there was less nose dive because the front brakes were getting a good assist from the rear . So I would think with a load when your applying more pressure anyway you
would enjoy the benefit . If doing it over I would research more an see if I could find a bigger Dodge CLY . I just took the GM P/N an ran with it . Knowone said anything about
the brake lines not lineing up although its not a big deal I,m sort of a perfectionist even if I can,t spell it. So that was my main complaint that an the the push rods not lining up perfectly . But there working so what can I say accept alls good for now .
