Block Heater ?'s
Block Heater ?'s
To those of you who share life in the cold like myself, I am wondering what the temp gauge reads after you have had the block heater plugged in all night? Mine doesn't register yet but the wait to start light goes off in 2-3 seconds after turning the key on. So I know that the heater is working. On some of the Diesel powered heavy eq. that I have operated I noticed that when the heater was plugged in all night that the next morning, the temp gauge would register up in the 180's. I am just curious what you all are getting and if mine is normal.
normal...temp depends on how long u plug in and how cold it is outside, but mine never registered after starting and being plugged in, but it did warm up faster. im going to guess about 150 degress after a 4 hour plug in @20 degrees.....the colder it is the faster the heat will dissapate.
Mine will get about 140 plugged in all night, it actually warms all the water, not just what's in the block. You can grab the top radiator hose and it has pressure to it. You can feel the head casting get hot as well.
Mine warms oil to about 130* when it's 20* overnight. Colder than that... and it starts to not show on the gauge... but is still getting the job done.
Easy to tell it's working, cause the Grid Heater does not cycle much...if at all.

Even in 75° weather mine will sometimes register a little over 140° on the guage, and sometimes won't register (really depends how windy it is). This is with the truck plugged in overnight.
