Barely Made it Home - Running Rough

Progression of events.....
-Last three or four days I've had less than instant starting. Cranked for 2-3 sec before catching.
-Thought I heard a slight rough idle when I started this am
-After 10 min driving around town, truck started smoking badly and running really rough, with loss of power.
-Just made it home. Turck will still start but idles very badly.

I got no CEL light! Ck'ed codes....got 0622, 0500, 1693, 1765
Anyone had similar scenario?

RJ

P0622: Generator Field Not Switching Properly
P0500: Vehicle Speed Sensor A

P1693 is a companion code I believe..letting you know that there is a code within the PCM. And I could not find the 1765 code, but I'm sure someone else will know what it is for.

Sounds fuel related though, perhaps you have a bad injector or IP..

From: North Carolina or Kentucky. Take your pick
1765: voltage not as expected on trans relay control circuit.
Although these codes do not indicate, you would be wise to check LP pressure. The problem sort of indicates LP pressure low for slow start.
Now check all grounds for good connections. Make sure both batteries are up to the job. See if charging system is working correctlly. Charging at 14 plus volts while idling.
P0500 indicates Speed signal not received at road load conditions. You might remove chips and see if they are messing up signals.

Had already checked all the above...not the problem.
My guess is VP-44. Have discovered my symptoms are yet another way the injector pump can start to die.
Did not realize they occasionally fail with no codes being indicated.

Talk about bringing one back...

Hey Row, I'm getting the exact same codes and loosing power. Did yours wind up being the IP?

I should have known this was going to happen because I was braggin in another thread about how many miles I have on my IP...228K.

Sorry.... I never followed up on this thread. I posted elsewhere but.......

Anyway, My problem ended up being two FireRings let go. #3 cylinder "threw" a 1/2" piece of Firering free. These two pieces bounced around all 6 cylinders. (Don't let anyone tell you a chunk of metal can't make it past the valves and into the Plenum). Chewed up the head pretty throughly, but only nicked the pistons in a few spots. No ring or cylinder wall damage.

I replaced the Head with new, after O-ringing it, and sanded down the piston crowns to prevent hot spots from carbon buildup.
Coming up on two years and running perfectly!

Now I'm worried. Hopefully mine isn't that bad because my only problem has been the dead pedal thing. When it's doing it, my boost gauge doesn't move neither does my egts or fp. Idle is fine and when it does hit it runs good. I'll check my apps but I don't think thats it.

Does this sound like dead pedal? No matter how hard it press it (when its acting up) it doesn't do anything. So far no hard starts either.
