I know diesel removes asphalt from the street. Not really sure what it will do to the paint though. WD-40 works for some stuff, too.

I know all of my paint is good under my fuel cap, so diesel cant do too much damage. I know wally world sells a bug/tar remover, i dont know how well it works though

Had the same thing happen to me. Used diesel fuel to get it off, and the paint is still there. It showed the streaky diesel for a while though, since it doesn't wash off incredibly well. But it is all gone now.

I have used a bug/tar remover on my rig before. Worked great, but with lots of effort..scrubbing, wiping, scrubbing, well you get the picture. After a while, all of it was gone.

I've switched to something called XENIT. It's a citrus based spray that's fantastic for removing tar, grease spots, soot, and a bunch of other stuff. I was using something called P21S Total Auto Wash. That too is great stuff except it costs an arm and a leg.

WD-40 and you get rust protection at the same time I use it when ever I need to get tar off things.
