Around 2000 rpm have sound like valves ticking....help

I just got this truck it is a 2001 2wd Quad cab 5spd, the truck has 170k miles on it I picked it up cheap at the auto auction to pull a car hauler trailer with have no idea of previous history, but around 2000 rpm it sounds like the valves are ticking pretty bad, I don't actually know if it could be the valves or something in the turbo...anybody got any ideas, and I am new, so hello to everyone.....Thanks

A friend of mine has the same situation. He said the wheel in the turbo had some play. He put on a new one, but still had a knock so a trucker told him it was the nature of the beast and to try automatic trans. fluid in a tank of fuel. He did and it quit knocking. I still think he needs to take it to a shop though. ???

Do not use ATF fluid as a fuel additive or conditioner. The detergent in ATF has been known to shorten the life of the pump and fuel lines, due to the detergent used in the fluid.

Found what what the noise was, it wasn't valves, or the turbo, it was the tranny! Came out hauling a load home last night....anybody know the cheapest place to get remans?
