Anybody ran across this?

Went to do the lift pump on a 2001 today and was gonna do a direct replacement on the engine. Found a metal block in place of old LP and no LP to be seen on the frame rail. I'm assuming it must have been moved to the tank sometime in the past. Is the pump you get for the tank the same as the one on the engine? Bc I already have one of these. Just trying to figure out what I need before I drop the tank.
Also I was thinking of moving it to the frame rail this time, in that case does the old one need to come out of the tank or could it be left in there and just put another one on? Thanks.

The pump that's in the tank isn't the same as one that goes on the side of the block. Did you look on the frame rail for the lift pump?

yeah, I looked up and down the frame, it's gotta be in the tank. Probably gonna put it on the frame this time for ease of replacement in the future.

Does anybody know if I could put it on the frame and leave the the dead one in the tank? Or would the old one restrict flow?

I'd guess it'll have a hard time drawing fuel through a dead pump.
May have to plan a tank drop/bed lift.

Yup, You need to remove it. Problem is... its part of the module. So, you need to mod your module or replace with like. My suggestion? Get an Air Dog and be done with it forever (and now AD even has the already modded canister - a job many of us had to do for ourselves). 12-14 psi at idle and WOT. Good luck.....

If I had to do it again, this is the route I would go.

To the OP, welcome to the club, I have changed 2 back from the "better design". Vulcan performance is your friend........
