alternator/cps help

My 1999 2500 has had intermitent voltage problems for the past couple of days. Would not start after work yesterday(dead batteries) so I charged them up and it started fine today. Had the battery and alternator checked, battery good, alternator good, low voltage showing bad regulator. Drove the truck home and at a stop light it died then threw P0336 code. Ran rough on and off the rest of the way home. Am I looking at a crank position sensor or a new PCM. This is my work truck so getting back on the road is of upmost importance. Thanks in advance.

Am not sure about this one, but will throw in my 2 cents anyway. If a bad voltage regulator has been diagnosed, then I suspect that it is allowing variable and stray spikes to enter the rest of the electrical/electronic system. This in turn could cause the computer and sundry other things that rely on a good and steady DC supply to act strangely.

If this were my truck, I would first rectify (a pun) the regulator problem, run it for a day and go from there.

The problem is the regulator is in the pcm so I would be looking at $300

$300? That hurts! Again, I am not familiar with your model of truck, but it seems to me that for the pre 2000 trucks that it is possible to install an outboard regulator. Do some digging here and maybe you will find the info. Better still, maybe someone a lot more informed than me will chime in.
Sorry that I could be of more help.
