Accelerator Just Cuts Out, MIL Light On
Accelerator Just Cuts Out, MIL Light On
Here lately I have been noticing that my near stock 02 CTD has been running somewhat sluggish. When it used to just take off at 2000 rpms it runs like a dog.
Then today, i was on a short trip down the road when my MIL light comes on. Im like whatever, I prolly just need to get the oil changed, when BAM I lose all accelerator control. The truck just goes down to an idle while im in sixth gear (manual). I immediately start freakin out, and pull onto a nearby dirt road to check things out. I started it a few times and I still couldnt get any throttle response at all...zilch, zero, nada. So, I do the key trick to look at my codes and I get the 1693 code and a 121 code. Since I dont have a smarty or programmer, I just pulled the battery cables and reset the computer. After this I was able to get some response, so I drove cautiously home. The MIL light went off later, that day, so I thought all was well...not. I kept noticing a faster idle when I stopped at a stop sign, when it took a big crap on me again on my way to town tonight, so I parked it. I found out that the 121 code was for the APPS, so I tried the trick to reset it when I get a 122 code saying that the voltage for the APPS was low.
Im needing as much help as I can get right now, because Im somewhat of a newbie to this kinda stuff. Im open to any ideas, because im a little wary of paying DC a lot of money for a new APPS. PLEASE HELP!!!!

Try doing this:
https://www.dieseltruckresource.com/...n&onlynewfaq=1
That should help with that. If that doesn't work then you might need to buy a new APPS.

I was reading about your dilema. You mentioned about the key trick to find codes. Could you explain to me how to do that so I can find what codes are showing on my 1998 5.9 as well. I am having the same problem as you & I have just replaced the APPS as well.
Having this truck for two yrs. has cost me a bundle. The engine is tops, but the control systems suck.
This likely the last dodge diesel I will ever have. Back to my reliables.....Ford.
