ABS and parking brake light on

ok before you guys get on me TOO much.... buddy had his tocoma stuck in the snow on this hill, so i go out down this 5 mile dirt road (6 inches of snow, on top of a nice layer of ice) i pull him out and up the hill. so on the way back going down this huge hill i slide off into the ditch and got stuck. he gave me a lil tug from my reciever hitch (ya i know a tocoma pulled me out...) but after that my ABS light and my parking brake light was on. i mashed on the brakes and no anti-lock brakes... havnt check anything yet, was just wondering where to start.

vacuum lines?
speed sensor?
rear axle sensor...?
ABS comp module?

I would look at the speed sensor on the rear differential. The connector probably either got broken off, or injested some water. You might also want to follow its wiring to the frame rail and forward, just to have a look for damage.

sensor on the rear axle, i have the same truck and the same problem, $60 done.

Yep, start simple, also, have AutoZone or another parts store who scans for free see if they can get the code ( some don't have the ability to read ABS )

It is probably something simple, sensor be it front or rear.....

If the sensor doesn't fix the problem, it may be the EBCM :(. I just went through this and the fix is to get the part from the dealer, remove the mounting screws for the EBCM (located on top of ABS pump), R&R new EBCM and you are good to go. $497....ouch. Literally a 15 min fix.....

Don't forget to remove battery terminals.........:)

Ya I backed out and the pulled forward a foot and the pull strap tightened up, he said I bout near pulled his fillings out...I might have just jarred loose one of the sensors, that's gonna be the first thing I check. If I can't figure it out gonna go to the dealership, they charge $100 just to tell you what's wrong, and if its something stupid and simple as plugging back in a sensor thell do it for ya. Right now its 25 outside and there's 6" of snow on the ground,,, so kinda hard for me to WANT to go fix it right now...

Also why is my parking brake light on as well...?

cowboykilla235 Dec 28, 2010 11:44 AM

ok checked the rear sensor,,, couldnt find anything wrong with it, where is the front sensor at? remember this is an 02...

i did a code scan on it myself with the ignition switch (P ecu and then P done) came up, and my light went off and my anti lock brakes are working great! any clue what those were?

KATOOM Dec 28, 2010 01:41 PM

Does your cruise work, speedo work, and do your brake lights work right?

cowboykilla235 Dec 28, 2010 01:44 PM

ya everything works great now! no problems like it was never there in the first place... does anyone know what PECU and PDONE mean?

fschiola Dec 30, 2010 04:07 PM

Not sure about PECU, however PDone always shows up when the scan is complete.

I had the same lights on too and I replaced the ABS sensor in the diff and it repaired mine.

My lights come on every time i push snow. It has to do with all the excessive wheel slip in the snow/ mud.
It goes away and doesn't cause any permanent problems.
Don't worry about it.

You turn the key on and off 3 times leaving it on the third time, but it will not read the ABS codes.
