47re reverse problems

I have been visting this site for months, decided to join. Lots of helpfull information. I recently rebuilt my 47re out of 2000 ram 3500 diesel dually. Third time on tranny rebuild, my first try. Dodge is a work truck used to pull construction dump trailer. has 340,000 miles. Tranny works great except when shift into reverse it engages then engages again, almost like it has overdrive reverse. Rebuild included new heavy duty torque converter and complete flushing of lines and cooler. I didn't take the valve body completely apart, only took off individual componets, cleaned and reinstalled. I have adjusted the bands several times. The looser the rear band the better it works but still does it. Any suggestions on where to start? I havent done any pressure testing yet. Have a feeling it is either something in valve body or ouch, internal leak. The reason for the rebuild was it had lost reverse then when put in neutral it would be in drive, fluid burnt etc. After opening case, discovered rear set of clutches completely burnt. Everything else looked good but still replaced all clutches and steels, seals gaskets.
thanks for any input

47re reverse problems

I also didn't replace either band on the 47re as they looked brand new and only 24,000 on tranny since last rebuild. Any input or advise?

Without pressure testing from the test ports its hard to determine what the exact cause could be, when I rebuilt my transmission it was because reverse would just drop out and the tranmission would go into nuetral and my overdrive bearing was shot. I carefully inspected the transmission on dissassembly and overhauled the valvebody put it all back together and everything worked great. Were was my reverse issue....can't say for sure, but I have a feeling it was a valvebody issue...yours could be a number of things...

47re tranny reverse problem

thanks for help, Do you think if I replace the valve body I should go with the heavy hauler valve body or just have the stock one rebuilt. I pull a trailer with about 13 to 14 thousand lbs gross.
what does the upgrade valve body do exactly, create more pressure?
