241 HD TransferCASE Question

I have this code on my Transfer Case: 241 DHD
this mean that I have a HEAVY DUTY t-case on my truck??
I know that the HD tcase is an option on 2500 but I don't know if mine has it...

is the NP241 not the same T Case (Select Trac) as found in some Cherokees?

NP231 being Command Trac iirc?

Yes that code means it is the heavy duty model. It will have a PTO mount on the side, that the light duty model doesn't.

No, the 241 wasn't used in Jeeps. It operates the same as a 231 unit, with 2wd and part time capabilities only. I think the Jeep Selec trac number was 242.

The Cummins option required the optional 241HD transfer case, among other things. If you have a Cummins 4x4, you should have the 241HD behind it, unless some odd supply problem occurred.

I always get this confused but I think mine is a NP241 DHD. Heavy duty model for the 6 speed HO's but still a chain drive. I'm pretty sure it came on other models too, Auto's and 5 speeds.

I've actually noticed that the majority of 2500 trucks have just the 241LD.

My 98 NV4500 4x4 3500, my buddy's 01 NV5600 4x4 2500, and his brother's 02 C&C NV5600 4x4 all have 241 DHD's.

My 01.5 6speed HO has "NV241 DLD" stamped on the txfr case. I was surprised that it wouldn't have the DHD unless I mis-read that!

mudwisr2, sorry, I said "stamped" but I just meant the tag on the txfr case itself, not the body of the txfr case :-) That tag is marked "NV241 DLD" on my 01.5 HO 6spd.

thanks,

Ted

If I remember right from when I ordered my 01 was that the 241DHD was an option. I think it was only a little bit more to upgrade tot he DHD. Otherwise the 241DLD was what came with them. The DHD may also have been included within another option set such as the snow plow prep pkg but not for sure on that.

this is my drivetrain.....DLD deffinately has no spot for a PTO mount

if your tag is gone thats a sure fire way to ID the case. The DLD uses a thinner chain than the DHD.

IIRC when I ordered my '01 the HD case was an option on the 2500 trucks but standard on the 3500s-also included in the Snow Plow Prep package. Not sure how the earlier models were allocated but I would think it would follow a similar pattern. My buddy's '94 2500 had the LD-I think my brother's '98 2500 also has the LD but I haven't looked closely. I ordered the HD on mine.
