Agreed... I would have thought self destruction would take place almost immediately. Especially if the amount of drag was enough to attempt to push a 4 ton vehicle. Crazy...

This is the tranny of my Volvo V70 D5 AWD. Self-destroyed after less than 100 k miles due to a small oil leak that was invisible due to the sound deadening material on the lower engine cover.

Since this exact model of transmission was no longer available as a spare, and changing to the successor would have needed new propshaft, rear diff, ABS and ESP controllers etc etc I decided to fix it and at the same time modify it a bit.

My original 5600 couldn't be torn down due to a galled bearing to the main shaft, shop said the 80 ton press they used wouldn't budge it so they gave up and replaced the whole thing....pretty sure it had gear oil in it at one time, not synchromesh fluid as req'd...Nice synopsis Alpine.

It is while it was under warranty! The trans guy said the press started creaking so they backed off, he was afraid if it didn't grenade it may shoot across the shop or worse.....
