2001 HO 6 spd. EZ installed, What's next
I have a 2001 CTD, HO 6 spd. 23.5k

Upgrades now include EZ & boost elbow, 4" exhaust turbo back, Boost & pyrometer guages. K&N filter in stock box. EZ installed @ 21k.
Removed turbo silencer ring & air inlet reducer from stock air filter box.

I'm thinking about DD2's. Which injectors work best for this application. I pull a 28.6 5th wheel, 10,500 loaded.
I'm also thinking about installing a pusher pump close to the fuel tank.

I can easily pull 21 MPG, no load, 14+ mpg pulling 5th wheel, ;D (11.5-12 MPG w/o EZ). Alltime agerage is 17 MPG.

The EZ is set to lvl 3. Lot of black smoke from stop. If I move jumper to lvl 1 will this affect HP & torque.

Before I installed boost elbow & removed silencer ring & air inlet reducer the EGT on long pull was 950 with only the EZ installed . Pyrometer installed in elbow after turbo. Are these normal EGT?

Any other suggestions?

Truck has alot of power compared to stock. ;D ;D

I have close to the same setup as yours. I pull a about the same size 5th wheel as you. I installed 275 RV injectors in mine and it runs strong. I decided to go with the 275 RV injectors for two reasons. The first is I wanted more power without having a strong effect on my MPG. Second I wanted to more power without raising the probability of replacing the clutch too soon. I did not notice if you have an aftermarket clutch. The planning of replacing the clutch may need to be added when buying injectors larger than 275 RV. Hope this helps.

For pulling the load you mentioned, I would say go no larger than DD2's, or you will suffer EGT problems, especially with the stock HX35 turbo.

As you know, the EZ has 3 settings. To me, setting 1 is the mildest, setting 3 the most aggressive (most HP). Different people may reverse these meanings though, and consider setting 1 the most aggressive. There will of course be a difference in HP and torque between each of the three settings. If I remember correctly, on the HO motor that you and I both have, it should be in the range of about 50 - 60 HP and maybe 100 ft/lbs of torque between the highest and lowest settings on the EZ. I had one myself with my DD3's and HX40 for about 8 months, then upgraded to a drag Comp box.

As woflpack posted, if you have the stock clutch, that's another good reason to stay on the milder end of injectors, especially when pulling your trailer.

It sounds like you have your EGT thermocouple what is commonly referred to as post-turbo. If that is true, most people usually say to figure your pre-turbo temps are 300 - 350* higher than post turbo temps. So, if you are seeing 950* post-turbo, that would equate to 1250 - 1300* pre-turbo, which is the safe limit on how hot you want to run on a constant basis.

Tom

Thanks for the input. A new clutch is to spendy right now, so maybe 275's or DD1's would be better. I changed the EZ to position 1 today and most if not all the black smoke is gone. Still seems to have a lot of power in this config. I'll have a chance to test the EGT Thursday now that the silencer ring is gone. I think that should let more air into the turbo. I'll also go back to position 3 on the EZ before I go.
Hello
You can see what I have in my truck if you go to the High performance threads. I posted a question for folks with the ETH and 6 speed. It may help you with your decission.

I started out the same as you with an Edge EZ. I was not as lucky as you, my clutch started slipping soon after I put on the EZ. We pull a 11,000 lbs high profile 5er. I could feel it the next trip. I went with a South Bend 13.25 clutch. Then I figured since I had to spend the $$ on a clutch I might as well get a set of injectors for her. I went with DDIIs.

Here are some of my other add ons.
the best is a tie between the 2 low kit and the exhaust brake. I run with a K&N but will be putting on a BHAF to see how that works, I also has 4 in exhaust straight piped just because I wanted to.

As far as the EZ setting. I have mine on the middle setting, I had to change it when I put in the DDIIs it smoked all the time. The setting are when the EZ starts adding more fuel as it senses the boost. I am copying this off the papers that came with my EZ.
Setting 3- Most responsive. (For trucks without injectors or if smoke is not a concern).
Setting 2- Decreased low boost fueling. (For trucks with moderate injectors).
Setting 1-2 Decreased low boost fueling (For trucks with large injectors)
I hope this helps you.
See Ya
Chris

Hi
I like papa smurf had clutch slippage towing my trailer as soon as I put my EZ on my truck LOTS of torque at lower rpm. Looks like a South Bend clutch is next for me if I keep EZ hooked up. havent as yet tried anything but the most agressive setting on the EZ, I should look into this first I guess.

EZ most responsive setting with RV 275 injectors, lots of smoke at low boost now that the wether is very hot. Pull about 7-8K about 20% of the time with stock clutch, no problem yet. I’m very happy with my setup, plenty of power for an old geezer like me.

Remember one set of injectors cost less than tow or more sets, easier said than done but try and purchase the largest injectors that will make you happy the first time (same goes for the box, but you already have an EZ).

Hello
I went with the DDIIs over the 275 because for nearly the same money you get more (HP/Tor) bang for your buck. I know there is bunches of folks out there that have the 275s and love them, and of course the same can be said for the DDIIs.
When I was looking into this about a year ago it was recommended that I not go with DDIII because of what I tow down the road. Some have had trouble with the EGTs getting up there.
Speaking of EGTs you may want to consider moving your EGT probe to your exhaust manifold about an inch from the flange where the turbo bolts up. The reason I sugest this is that way you get a more accurate reading of what temps you are running. If not then add about 300/350 degrees onto your egt you are seeing and you will be pretty close.

Just trying to help you out. It sounds like you are putting your truck together pretty good.
See Ya
Chris

bwat4,

I don't see a fuel pressure gauge listed in your mods, that would be the next thing I would install, along with a pusher pump or another better fuel pump set-up altogether.

Rob
Why don't you get Bully Dog Injectors? Support you loacal Idaho company ;D I have the Step 1 injectors and a ez ;D I am very happy with it, I will switch to step 2 in a year or so. Just need more power ;D Bully Dog

Over the weekend I went into the Sawtooth mountains camping, great opportunity to test the truck.
With both the turbo silencer ring and the stock air box inlet reducer gone the EGT has been reduced from about 950 to 800. Not a bad change by just removing a couple of unnecessary parts. The truck also got 14 MPG pulling a Hi-profile 5th whl. ;D ;D

Run DDII's with the box turned down if the clutch starts to slip. This way you wont have to buy new injectors down the road if you want bigger.
