2001 Died and won't start.

I had just started the truck to go get lunch. Started fine. Decided to drop the snow plow and push back the pile of snow in front of where I park. Truck stalled when pushing snow and won't start. I tried to test the fuel pressure, but the test gauge I bought won't fit on the fittings. I changed the lift pump anyways. Figured it was about time and couldn't hurt. I have plenty of fuel flow coming out of the filter housing into the injector pump. No codes when cycling the key. Any ideas?

you said you have plenty of fuel going past filter and to the injection pump. but what about to your injectors. crack injectors 1,3,5 and cycle bump your starter and cycle your lift pump keep doing it and see if you have fuel coming past your injection pump.

O.K. Tried cracking the injector lines and no fuel. Checked fuses and tried swapping relays. Still nothing. When this first happened I was able to get the truck to start running after several attempts. It would run rough as if it was not firing on all cylinders (due to low fuel pressure I presume). I am leaning toward the injection pump. Just thought it was weird how it died so suddenly without any warning. Any other help would be appreciated.

Leave the lines cracked and try to start it to see if fuel will come through could be air locked?

Check the codes with the key trick.....watch for 0216...

Tried letting the truck run with lines cracked. Won't stay running. It will stay running if the lines are tight but running really rough. I am getting the P1693 code now. I have a guy coming tomorrow to try and pull the codes. I have a feeling it is the VP. Can't complain too much I got 179,000 miles out of the origional pump. A local diesel shop that specializes in fuel systems told me he had never seen one go past 140,000 miles.

Read codes today. I have the infamous P1688 code. Looks likea new injection pump.:( Thanks everyone for the help.

I'm a little late to this post. go to blue chip site. he has instructions on what to check before buying a vp44. there is lots of info there.

179K for a factory VP-44 aint bad, but I have seen people go well above 200K with one, I made it to 240K with my factory one and the only reason it died on me was my LP went out and I didn't have guages, and even then it drove for 2 weeks with 0 psi fuel pressure.....Good luck and hope you get it fixed, I know it's frusterating but you'll be glad when it's all fixed and can expect many more years of driving out of it.
