01 ram long initial crank to start

I have an 01, with 197k on the clock. The truck runs flawless but the first start of the day tends to be long crank to get it lit. After the first start it is good for the rest of the day. Has good fuel press. with 15 psi on gauge while running. No fuel leaks, new fuel return check valve on injector pump, no codes. I have been told there is a return fuel check valve on the back of the head, I found the banjo bolt connected to the fuel return on the back of the head. Does anyone know for sure if this is a restricted or check valve bolt or is it just a regular banjo bolt. If it is a check valve of some sort, do you have the part# of it? Thanks.

Back of the head is a standard banjo- but the copper washers tend to start to leak a bit, not enough to led diesel out, but enough to let air in while the vehicle is sitting.
(cheap parts, quickly changed)
This air bubble can then get into the fuel filter. A pressure gauge will not tell you if it measures 15 psi of air or fuel pressure.

You have a fuel leak... If you've messed with ANY fuel fitting in the fuel system then thats where you want to start looking. If you've done nothing then as Alpine noted, the single banjo fitting on the back of the head can come loose from hot/cold cycles over time. Try cinching it back up to 18 lbs tq. NO TIGHTER as the banjo bolt is hollow and can snap. Then check the T fitting just below it as it has rubber seals at the joints and they can deteriorate.
Also, diesel is not like gasoline and will creep around before dripping. So use a dry hand and feel around all fittings for oily residue to indicate a leak. A fuel leak can allow air in but not enough fuel to drip.

I agree with Alpine and Katoom, sounds like a leak down allowing a bit of air in after a set. To save you some time, that banjo on the rear of the head is the same size wrench as the ones at the vp. It's not too bad to reach if you lay along the valve cover in the same direction.....
