01 Cummins blue smoke

Hello all. Any help will be appreciated. My 01 Dodge 24v starts and runs with no smoke, as i push the throttle, blue smoke
comes out of the exhaust. Then i put the truck in drive. The truck takes off fine, then after a few seconds, the truck cuts back and lacks power. It has no power at this point. If i continue to drive like this, after a few minutes,it clears out and runs good. Can anyone direct me???? It also has a code that is injector timing stored. It does not set a light. The dodge dealer said they thought it was the turbo. Fuel pressure was fine. Second opinion shop said it was the injector pump, possible the lift pump. Strange thing is,after this happens in the morning , it runs fine. It as something closes and then opens up and runs great. Please help!!!! Thanks Gil

Mine was doing the same thing for awhile. The odd time first thing in the morning. Sometimes leaving a stop light it would blow blue. Did it once cruising down the highway in 6th. About 2 weeks later, the injection pump died!

Have you pulled any codes yet? I got the compainion code 1693 off the odometer display. Needed a scanner to pull the dreaded 0216.

Sounds like you may have the dreaded p0216 "pump timing failure" which is pretty much the kiss of death for the injection pump. First thing you want to do is to verify that your lift pump is delivering enough fuel to the injection pump. If it is, great, if not, put a new one on. I would then clear the code and drive it. If the code comes back you'll need an injector pump. If not, knock on wood and say your prayers and hope the Vp 44 lasts a good long time.

Great!!! Just what i did not need!!! Another high dollar fix!!! I cant understand why it goes away and runs great the rest of the day??? Is the pump easy to change?? Or does it require it being timed or something i cant do???
