Well the bird is gone, only a faint trail of leftovers to even proclaim it's presence. Just for the safety minded, enjoy the following. The fryer was placed downhill and well away from any overhead combustibles. Once the oil was at temp, 325-350, and the bird was suitably infused with the honey and butter embalming fluid, it was time for a PPE check. Heavy gloves, heavy, long sleeve sweatshirt and safety glasses were the order of the day! Standing at arms length the bird was slowly lowered into it's bubble bath of peanut oil.

After about 3 minutes, the bird was totally immersed in oil and the cooking was in high gear. This bird was nearly 17 pounds so a mere 51 minutes later it was ready for an inspection. A meat thermometer confirmed 180* min in any portion and higher in a couple of others so stick a fork in it, the bird was done. Add a sprinkling of side items and a moment to say thanks for blessings, family and friends and it was time to dig in.

My daughter and my precious grandson were the icing on the cake for me. That little rascal is growing and he just seems to make my heart melt every time I see him. (sniff) OK, enough mushy stuff. After a really good meal there's nothing like telling stories and comparing bellies. Looks like grandson is going to be a chip off the old block. I hope you all felt as fulfilled as I did today. I'll be praying blessing for you all tonight. T-rad

T-rad, the bird looks good. Gonna deep fry one around xmas time, might go to Bass pro tomorrow and buy a turkey fryer since they are on sale.

Evening all, hada wonderful dinner at the GF's moms. Watched some football then had dinner tonight with mom, dad, my aunt and uncle, my brother, my sister and the GF. Moms turkey came out good. I put it in a salt water brine yesterday afternoon, it soaked for about 18 hrs, came out very tender. Watchin 3:10 to Yuma right now and havin a couple drinks.

Thanks Josh, we had a house full for sure. Hope your day was good after you got off work.

Matt, look'em over good. There can be a huge difference in quality between brands. I got this one at Sam's Club 5 years ago and it's still as nice today as when I bought it. Even the base is stainless steel. Don't forget to purchase a good liquid injection needle also.

It's all good. Kinda hard to keep up with the breakneck speed posting going on around here recently.

I'll analyze alot before purchasing. I'm very picky when it comes to buying things, but I'll make sure to get a good quality one and a good injection needle. Whats a good marinade to inject into a turkey?

Matt, we like the butter and honey mix. The first year I did the fried bird I bought the Cajun kit from Sam's when I bought the fryer. I let everybody look at all the flavors and they decided what to try. I did half the bird in their pick and the other half with the honey/butter mix. Both were good but the leftovers were all from the Cajun side. We've never revisited Cajun or even considered another flavor. Everybody here has adopted the "if in ain't broke don't fix it" attitude.
