For you guys running the getrag I thought I'd post this up.

I used redline heavyweight shockproof gear oil in my Sentra SER. Most of the guys running big power do also. This oil reduces the chance of sheared gears and provides all around better protection. Its an excellent bandaid for people pushing big power through an underbuilt transmission. Many mustang guys run it too. Thats the extent of my knowledge. I do know that there help line can help with any questions

I sem to remember that the reason for the lightweight oil in the Getrag is the needle bearings don't get lubed with 90 wt gear oil. Better be careful with this one.

Mine has held 800+ foot-lbs. for a year so far. I'm running Redline's MTL.

When I got my truck it had gear lube in it, the trans had to warm up for about half an hour on the highway before it would shift smoothly. My experience with thick oil and Getrags has not been good. They do run quiet with gear oil, though.

 

If you'll notice the shockproof lightweight is rated to 75/140 spec but has the flow characteristics of a sae 30wt oil. I.E. this should be just fine in a getrag. I run the heavyweight in my sentra, it carries a 75/250 rating w/flow characteristics of dino 75/90 gear oil. This is an excellent product. If you question the viability of its use, simply call the redline techinical department and ask them what is best for your application. And like wanna has said he's been running MTL for a while with no hiccups. What I was initially advised was, if the trans is stiff when cold simply drive gently until it warmed slightly, this was NOT an issue. The heavyweight shockproof outperformed the dino 75/90 in all aspects. I also noticed a large temperature decrease when towing, while using their standard MTL in my nissan pickup.

Gasssser trasssssh. 5w30 engine oil is the correct lube for the getrag.
