Wiring problem pleae help
I have a 91.5 cummins that is giving me problems. It keeps over charging the battery and burning them up. I have replaced the voltage regulator, battery, has a fairly new alternator. I made sure it had a good body ground along with motor ground, i cant seem to figure out what is wrong. Any help is appreciated.
Thanks |
I've heard that non mopar voltage regulators can do that. Is yours an aftermarket? When mine quit I got a mopar one off a junker and it worked fine.

I ran into the same problem, charging at 18 volts plus. I had just put in a brand new voltage regulator before this. I spent a bunch of time on it and it would charge good every once in a while. I finally looked really close at the connector for the voltage regulator and found that it had green death in it. I used battery termial spray in the connector and then used dialectric grease in the connector. Plugged it back in and then went for a rip, FINALLY had the charging system in track.
All I have to say is the next time I have charging system issues, I will be going to a Leese Nevin alternator. Just food for thought. Glenn |

I think all the external regulators are the same way back into the 70's I paid a couple bucks for one at the junkyard.
