wiper / fan issues
so today my wipers and my defrost fan stopped working at the same time (just when i needed them). it was raining and i had them goin slow and everytime they rotated, i would hear this weird electrical sound coming from the dash somewhere. my fuses are all fine though. any ideas?
also is it normal that everytime i honk my horn, the little white box on the fuse panel lights up green? |
ive done some poking around and testing. Now when i try my wipers i hear a clicking under the dash from the module. that is the relay correct? if its clicking would it be a safe bet that its toast?
then i tested the blower fan. unhooked the connector, added 12volts, fan spins fine. tested voltage at connector and it was reading 12 volts. im also gettin current at the resistor conector. anyone have any ideas? |
Cant really help you with the blower motor, maybe it just quit on ya. For the wipers, something to check would be the bushing in the linkage of the wiper arms. Maybe not your problem, but make a sound when they go out on ya.
|
this sound was more of an electric sound. and if it was the bushings wouldnt the motor atleast attempt to budge?
|
No, when the bushings fail the motor is no longer connected to the wipers.
|
would the relay still click if it were the bushings?
i hear no sound from the motor attempting to move. If it were the bushings, would i be able to move the wipers by hand? they are pretty stiff on there. |
About the only thing I would say is to go and check under the cowl and see. Sorry I dont have the answer for you, but thats been my only experience with the wipers.
|
checked under the cowl, bushings seem fine. i recently installed a second battery under the hood. dont know if that made a power related difference but they started working again.
still no fan though. are there any common problems with the fans? the resistor behind the glove box possibly? |
