winter damage
winter damage - long, rambling post CABIN FEVER???
this is my first winter with the Guvnah and as you all know the northeast was walloped with a blizzard on 12/26
fortunately I had no trouble getting around in 18" snow
well some of the plowed piles were 10' high in our walled parking lot at work and I was forgot that I had fogs bolted underneath my bumper when I rammed up on one
goodbye fogs, luckily they were cheapies
then on Saturday night I was backing into a parking space and heard a crash behind me but there was no snow bank or car there. SUnday morning I notice that I blew out the lens of the brake light / turn signal back there
- hit the head of a parking meter
two weekends ago I was at a drive-up donut shop and had to make a real tight turn around the back of the building. I guess enough people had trouble with this turn that they installed a highway guard rail there, which I scraped along so hard that my bumper came into contact with the paint on the leading edge of the quarterpanel
- bumper sprang back but the paint didn't
now that I've been through several 4WD/locking hub cycles, I can tell my Warn hubs haven't been serviced in a long time since the driver side is fairly hard to turn
also despite the fact that I have a toolbox and tight tonneau cover, just about everything I store in the bed of the truck (sand bags, mooring chains and shovels) is wet - what's the best way to seal the gaps between the toolbox and the front of the bed or the leading edge of the tonneau rail?
p.s. the good news is that I paid for 1/2 of a new sound system for the truck, with a radio my daughter can plug her electronics into AND a remote so she doesn't have to reach in back of the gear shift to change the station - but now I'm thinkin that a satellite setup would be cool to have
p.p.s. one of my frenemies told me that my old school tires were "baby tires" and to get some real ones

Don't listen to your frenemies and let them tell you how to spend your money.
Usually, those with all the "you oughta buy this (fill in the blank)" only wish you to be as broke and indebted as they already are; one hardly ever hears a well-heeled man telling others what they should buy.
As for the banging into stuff and knocking things off the truck, maybe you should make an eye appointment.

If I listened to my friends I would have bought a much younger truck, so screw them - they all dig old-school but drive newer
well, we've got another 10-14" coming tomorrow so I better get my truck back from the shop this afternoon -- too bad they won't have the lens by then
Eighteen years ago, I had radial keratomy (or however it's spelled); not the newer laser kind, but the procedure that is actually done with a blade.
I didn't let them drug me up and had the work done "raw dog", and am thankful that I did it that way.
The guy that did the work told me that being fully alert during the procedure made the difference between an excellent job and a so-so one.
From day one, I have had excellent vision, both near and far far away, with excellent depth perception; whereas before, I was near blind as a bat.
So far as the tail-light is concerned, the wife's truck came with a very broken right-side tail-light, with a big hole in the middle of the lens.
I took another old red lens from some old tail-light I had laying around and, using the heat-gun and plastic welding kit, made a very convincing patch that would have satisfied the most hard-headed cop.
She ran it that way for several months, while I searched for a replacement new one.

Tell the tire morons to kiss your a##. I just dumped the balloons that came with the truck and went to the size on the door plate. I can now plow most light snow in 2wd and when I put it in 4wd the only thing that stops her is if the engine will no longer push the weight. No more rear end breaking loose.

funny thing, the passenger-side rear lens I ordered from partsbin had black trim (not chrome like the drivers side I ordered two weeks ago)
well I tried to order a black trimmed driver's side lens but they have no more driver's side lenses
so I ordered a chrome-trimmed tail light lens for a Dodge Dakota (I was told it would fit)
we'll see...
