Will a less aggressive fuel pin help in this situation?
It is merely a CHEAP way to determine if the fuel pin or afc setting is your problem. If nothing changes, TOO MUCH fuel is your problem. If you do notice a big change then you can start tuning ur pin and spring settings.
It will take 5 minutes to figure this out.

John,
I think your problem is the same as mine - -
TOO large injectors.....
My valet shuts down all pin movement and I get haze at idle and smoke nearly all the time if I don't watch the throttle - except when I have over 20 psi boost.
I have noticed my max boost is down to only mid 30's
and I really have to push it to get egt's close to 1200.
I haven't tried towing yet but the wife and I are looking at 26 - 30 ft travel trailers...It will be interesting to see how your trip goes.

Yeah you are probably right. I guess I may just have to live with it. It's not a big deal, but I just like to nitpick with this truck.
I will try what you said JustRamIt. I sold my Denny T to my brother, I just have to get it back and try it out.

I now have the same problem as you john... i went back to my baby h1c turbo, for various reasons... and it smokes like a freight train... I tried what i said about the fuel pin and it does work. Cleaned the smoke right up... and i had enough fuel to turn that turbine to 30 psi. Talk about slow mobile

id say youre in a situation to back out the fuel screw until your happy with it or get smaller injectors.
Well, it's a double edged sword I suppose. I can hit 36 psi, and that's with a stock intake and filter. I don't want to lose topend if I turn down the full power screw. It is boosting right in the fat spot of the compressor map right now. As it sits right now, it doesn't smoke as much. I was watching it today. I also need to readjust the star wheel for less fuel as well.
Do you have your static timing bumped along with the timing spacer? My static timing is stock and I noticed more response/top end power with the spacer myself. I would think you'd still have some even if you were to turn the fuel screw out. Maybe try backing it out a turn at a time until it still feels strong but doesn't smoke near as much to your liking. Of course, it can always be turned back up later on.
Nope the static timing is at the stock mark. I can't rotate the pump because the shop who reinstalled it in January used silicone instead of a gasket. It is stuck there really good, I tried.
Well that's fine. Thomas at M&H actually recommended to me and others that the static timing be at stock when running the spacer. However, there's no damage to be done if you were to run the spacer with the static timing bumped. Obviously, you would only have more bottom end and top end timing.

i kept my initial timing at 1/4" past the stock position and it seems to run fine. i think with stock injectors i would keep the position stock if i was running the spacer. if youre running bigger injectors i wouldnt be afraid to bump the timing. their are trucks are skipping multiple teeth to get where they are and you dont hear much trouble even coming from that. theres nothing wrong with a little timing!
