Question

I never figured to ever own one.

I was one of those "I don't like diesels, they smell awful, they are noisy and they always sound like they are coming apart when they run." types.
Then I borrowed one to use.

Under 2 months later I bought a 5 speed 91.5 1 ton off Ebay in '04 and hauled Commercially for 6 months with it, lost my shirt doing the hauling (I was clueless and green) and sold the truck.

5 months later I did a Cummins/Getrag conversion on a '74 Cab and Chassis and have never been without a Cummins since.

Mark.

i have a friend who bought a 92 w 350 4x4 5 speed flatbed dually,,he got it for 1800$ it needed a door and fender ,,he changed it and every day he would call asking me if he got burned,,every time i seen him out he would flag me down and ask me if i thought his engine was knocking,,or if his alternator was bad ,,when the grid heater would cycle,,,finally he ended up selling it while i was out of town working ,,,,now the guy he sold it to has painted it and loves it ,,,i asked him what he ended up paying for it and he said he traded a vw railbuggy junker and 400 bucks,,,,,,,,he had 900$ in it and now pulls a 35 foot goosekneck trailor with it everywhere.my buddy still kicks himself for it ...

I'm kinda like Mark, i was i high RPM engine kinda guy, then in 2001 i bought a new Jeep Cherokee 60th aniv, drove it on a long trip and put 18,000 miles on it, then one day i passed a local used dealer in town and he had a 97 excb dually 5spd with 197,000 on it, i talked mamma into trading the jeep even for the truck and i havent been without a cummins diesel to this day.

The last truck i had before my 93 was a 99 very nice truck buy i wanted a truck with personality, sold it to buy my 93 and i won't have a newer truck than a 93, i'm all for less electronics.

I've been wondering how that install was going. You get it all up and running?

I totally understand the confusion.
The Dodge wasn't good enough, I guess.

I got it up in running mid NOV, i still got a few small things but Im driving it. I got to figure out how to hook up the cruise control and get the A/C going. Im using the Ford 5r110 tranny and its been kind of a pain to get it going I wish I would have went with a manual. But Im very glad I did it the Ol 1st gen's body was wasting away

Well, on that point you are definitely right, but I have never seen anything about a FORD that was anything remotely like an upgrade to a DODGE, no matter how beat and rusty the Dodge is.
But then that's just me, a rabid, diehard, 1stgen Dodge truck lover, I guess.

Mark.
