Whistling Wing-Window !

My drivers side wing window has a small gap in between the glass and rubber seal and it whistles at anything above about 40mph. I have adjusted the glass back and forth - no change. I slipped a small piece of tubing in between the groove in the rubber seal to take up some space, but no change. Anybody have any luck with a problem like this? I KNOW I don't need new trim... It's the kind of sound that could drive you "criggin frazy"!

Okay, check this out. The vent window holder-shuter gets really tired after 15 years, and it doesn't really hold the window shut.

On the little chunk of metal that the holder-shuter rests on when the window is closed is a little ridge. As in, on the bottom of the rest is a little ridge.

If I balance the holder shuter on that ridge, then it puts enough tension on the window to get rid of the whistle. If I don't, then I get the whistle.

I'm pretty sure the problem resides in the holder-shutter, not the glass or the weather stripping.

Or you could be a man and drive with the windows down.

If I lived in SoCal I would drive with the windows down... I've personally watched the heat here melt a Californian once...

I am going to see if I can mess with the latch and have any effect on it.

There is a little plastic nub on the vent latch that is broken on my passenger's side, and worn away on my drivers side. I have folded cardboard on both sides to increase the closing tension

When you find out, let us know.

I really haven,t looked yet. I balance mine on the ridge. If I find some I will let you know.

Latches

I think there's a roll pin that can be driven out then you could possible shim them so they fit better. I'm planning to see what I can do with mine once I get the time.

I used a little 1/4" foam weather stripping, Home Depot- self adhesive, around the bottom and around the radius and no more

All you need is door seals like mine, and you won't even notice the vent-glass noise.
