Where to get Turbo Bearings??

Anyone have a good source for new bearings (two plain and one thrust) for an H1C/HX35 cartridge??

do you need a rebuild kit or just the bearings? I can probably put my hands on some.

Your local Cummins dealer can get them straight from Holset. They usually run about $40-50 for the rebuild kit.

The part number should be #3545652 and last time I checked it was like $48 from Cummins. Comes with everything....just make sure you have a turbo shop balance the shaft/wheels.

Shouldn't need it if I index the compressor before removing it and install in same index (including the nut.)

I've rebuilt quite a few Garrett's and Triple-K's and nary a problem. Have plenty of parts for those, but the place I get those parts from doesn't do Holset.

Thanks for the P/N's, I'll call around tomorrow and see what I can get.

you don't even need to index the wheels... they aren't dynamic balanced from the factory...

just have the turbine wheel balanced and have the compressor wheel balanced, and stick 'em together however you want.

you can bolt it back together without balancing, but holset factory tolerances aren't ideal by any means... not bad, but while its apart, I'd have the stuff balanced.

expect to pay on average of 85-100 bucks for a rebuild kit on the 35. This does not include, the impeller wheel or compressor housing.

it depends on what kind of damage is done to the HX35... and what it costs you...

If it needs a standard rebuild (bearings, thrust collar, rings) then it's worth it. If the bearings are worn badly, they can tear up the shaft on the turbine wheel and the bearing housing as well...which would need oversized bearings and or honing of the bearing housing and grinding of the turbine wheel shaft. If either of the wheels are damaged or have hit the housings, it will most likely need new wheels...in that case...just save your money and find a better turbo.

Easy way to "balance" a wheel assembly: before tearing it down, use a marker and mark a spot on the compressor wheel, and a spot on the same side of the turbine wheel. When reassembling, line the marks back up and torque the compressor wheel down. This only works if the rotating assembly was within balancing tolerances before the rebuild.

What he said. I purchased a kit a couple years ago with plans to rebuild my H1C...no way.
Shaft literally ate thru the entire thrust bearing, compressor wheel was "slightly" smaller from rubbing on the housing....I was lucky the engine didn't get damaged from sucking in all that aluminum.
But rebuilding a turbo is pretty straight forward. I've done a couple of Holsets in the past for Perkins marine diesels.
I think I paid about $85 for the kit from a truck parts supply store.
Hope this helps.
