What's a '93 250 Cummins 4wd worth?

I found a '93 Dodge 250 Heavy Duty, Cummins, 5-sp, 4wd, base model with 220,000 miles. It's in good shape, with a minor bang up on the driver's side of the bed. Everything else is in great shape. What is this truck worth? Is $8500 too high? Thanks.

value is in the eye of the beholder. i've seen them go that high but would probably not pay it myself. you will get a wide range of answers on this question. if it's what you want and you've got the money it's your call. i'd say you can find a better deal.

aight...just my two cents...feel free to correct me.

I bought the truck in my sig two years ago, it had 172k and the exterior was in excellent shape, new paint, body molding, weatherstriping, tint. Interior is in fair condition, seat has some stains, ect. I paid $8500 for it. Other than some minor problems, i have put almost 30k miles on it and it runs like a top. Currently, tranny needs some work.

These trucks are actually not getting any cheaper. I have found several deals on 1st gens, but overall, the truck remains a vehicle to be had. Look on autotrader.com, there you might get some ideas about the market. The prices and values you will receive from kelley blue book and nada will not accurately represent what these trucks can be sold for.

If the truck is in very good shape, and runs well, i would try to see how much play the price actually has, i.e. begin haggling with the owner. $500-$1000 off the price would seem plausible to me, maybe more. Use every possible "flaw" to your advantage.....tire condition, brakes, pretty much anything. i mean....don't just be a jerk, be reasonable.

In the end.....kinda depends on how much you want the truck. If the truck is in immaculate condition and runs very well, i would try to knock around $500 off the price.....and then buy it. If the truck is really taken care of, the miles do not matter.
Again.....just my two cents.....redwake

Just my humble opinion, but for that kind of dough, and over 200k, it shouldn't have any body damage.

I paid $7000 for mine in 2003, and it had 190k and no body damage. And it is an LE, meaning power windows and tilt column and cruise control that never worked and ac etc etc.

And my getrag quit about 5k later, costing almost $3000 to upgrage to a NV.

here's what my local Craigslist has for first gen 4x4s today. Mostly autos of course, I had to look for a while to find a good five speed. But there are a couple of five speed trucks in here.

Thanks for all of your help. It looks like I should be able to find a good one like this for $6000-7500.

By the way, the one I was looking at is just like the last link that woodrat provided:

Thanks again.

I use Auto Trader to get a feel for prices and selection too. There does seem to be an exception with the first gens. Once in a while a nice CTD will come on the market really cheep. I suspect that the seller is comparing the CTD to the gas trucks of the era and is not fully aware of the differance. Good luck with your search.[coffee]
