What would you pay??
Stumbled upon this old farm wagon this week...buddy said make him an offer. I don't want to insult him nor over pay. I want it for the CTD and NV4500 tranny...my CTD has unknown mileage..this will be a parts truck.
Located in SW Saskatchewan, Canada
'91.5 W350 Dually
I/C 5.9L CTD - 270,000km (169,000mi)
NV4500 tranny swap completed (Advanced Adapters kit)
Rear diff is gutted, gears on stool under truck (4:11)
Ranch beat..cab is filthy (dash/gauges are in good shape under the grim)
fenders are dented/rusting.
No pwr windows or locks.
What would you pay? I have to travel over 600 km one way to get it..have to factor in fuel nowadays!

For a "Non functioning" truck, I would pay no more than $2500.
Tell him you want it for the driveline, and will clear a space out in his barn for him. I'd start the offer @ $2000 and go from there.
If you think you can utilize the cab, frame, or other parts, then maybe it's worth more. Maybe you can pay a little more, sell the parts, and still be in that range.
USA prices vary differently than up there, so obviously our perceptions of what would be the going value are different.

If it were me and I could hear the motor run. I would start around $2,500 but go as high as $3,500/$4k for just the fact that I see good running 5.9's selling for $1,500 to $2K and excellent shifting NV4500's selling for the same. I have purchased/installed three AA kits so I know that by the time you pay shipping your looking at close to $450. Count the NP205 and D60 front for another $500 to $1k. Im not counting the rest of the truck as living in Canada the body is shot. Who knows about wiring in an a 23yr old truck. So I wouldn't count the rest as I would subtract that for the fuel. Start at $2,500 but go up to $3,500/$4k. I would buy here for that money. Great find!!!!
My perspective is utilizing the motor/tranny/np205/D60/D70 in something else. If your looking for a turn key rig you have bargaining power. If the farmer knows what he has (sounds like it if he swapped in the nv4500) he might not take to being lowballed.

That's the kind of deal I need to find.
I'd pay $2500 for it.

Thanks guys, think I am going to low ball him at $2000 and pay a max of $3000. He has a 2nd gen 3500 sitting outside that is beat as well...mentioned he wanted to get rid of one of the trucks, I said I'd look at the 91. He was shocked I was even interested in it.
This was a great find for my '79 Power Wagon build, that sadly stalled out for quite awhile, until now lol. It is loaded with parts I may need, as well can act as reference as I put my truck together.

I do have a thread on here. Been a year since I was on it tho Work and life and a very cold winter put the brakes on this project until recently.

Last year I bought a 1992 Club Cab CTD 4x4 with a broken Getrag and 202K miles. Runs fine. Rotted rockers, driver side floor and body mount. Needs brake work from sitting and the usual problems. Sat a mile from my house for 4 years. The owner and I agreed on $2000 for it but couldn't do the title work for a couple weeks due to work schedules. When we met at the title place he decided he wanted $2500. I should've told him to pound sand but these trucks are getting harder to find around here. I have $2500 in the truck. I spent another $2500 on an NOS NV4500 / AA bellhousing and $900 on a South Bend OFEK Clutch and flywheel kit. Hope this helps with your decision. Around here used NV4500's are going for $1500-$1800 if you can find one and then you never know what your getting. No harm in starting low and working up if needed. Keep in mind that the Dana 60 in the front of that truck with 4.10's can be worth some coin. All of the rock crawler folks around here go nutso for them b/c they're narrow. They sell on CL for around $800. Both rears usually go for $1100-$1200.

We settled on $3000 as it sits. He is to have it running and ready to load within a few weeks. Rear end won't be put back together per the deal but I get the new gears (4:11), which I don't need as I have my W250 rearend with 3:73 gears (looking for more highway driving then towing...he said with the 4:11 the truck barely hits 65mph.
Thanks for the comments and help guys!!
