Well, well. A new noise. When I turn the truck off there is this screeching/squeeling noise that is quick and abrupt, coming from the fan area, when the fan comes to a halt. The belt is brand spankin' new. This noise just started. Is this normal due to a new belt, or is this the sign of an unknown bearing going south? Carmyne

Yeah, come to think of it, it has recently been in the upper 90's here in Sacramento. Possibly a good point-thank you.

i believe it's cause the motor stops quick because of the high compression. you can spend a few extra bucks and buy a "gatorback" belt that seems to get rid of it. but if it doens't bother you.... it's not gonna bother the truck.

The spring in your tensioner could be weak, they loose some tension because they get fatigued over a long time.If you put on a new tensioner, your squeal
may go away completely.

Seems like its mostly the auto's that do it because the engine stops quickly like stated and the accessories want to keep going, probably mostly the fan as its the biggest/heaviest accessory. Where with the manual tranny trucks they have a big heavy flywheel/clutch assembly to keep the engine turning after shut down so the accessories don't have to stop as fast.

Welcome to high compression. Almost all the fan belts do that due to the quick stop of the motor. I just put a new one on mine dosen't do it now but it soon will be squeeling again. I kinda like that sound, mean things are still tight.

OK HEAR I GO AGAIN! The churp noise is normal, some do and some don't!
Chrys has finly adressed this Issue.(acording to chrys the churp is form when you turn the ign off, the alt gos to full charge untill the eng stops puting a large load on the atl pulley(alt. is what churping!)as the eng. is comming to a stop. chry has come up with a fix(by fallowing the same idea as the new jeep w/a diesel)that req. replacing the alt. pulley with one that has a one way clutch in it!
I have installed one of them and it seamed to work don't now how much that would be$$$ but if the noise drive you crazy enuff an have to fix or stop it,let me now and i'll get you the part number and price!

Edit don't now if the shaft size is the same as our alt thow????

It probably does it 4 times out of 10, and like mentioned earlier, it started as soon as the hot weather kicked in. I think I'll leave it. Thanks, everyone. Carmyne
