what do i have?

i got my trans and transfer yanked out of my parts truck the other day. went well got everything cleaned up. know im beginning to see what needs to be replaced. i noticed that the clutch i have is 12.25" which i thought the factory one is 13" any thoughts?
also after pressure washing my tranny i found a metal tag that says getrag remanufactured and gives me a serial #
which seemed good untill i started reading threads about reman. getrags with wrong bearing preloads??
anyways that is what i have found so far

The tranny blew up in my 93 on the original owner at 60 thousand miles. It now has 128,000. I guess it was better the second time around. On clutch size, Sorry don't know what stock is.

I think they fixed the original tranny and reinstalled. In the early years they would just pull and replace the tranny with another.

Isn't there a member on here that worked on the Getrag/Dodge Cummins project in the beginning? Hmmm maybe something like "mystery man" or something? You might find out exactly who it is and shoot him a PM. Good luck on your swap out.

12.25 is a stock replacement clutch sold at most any parts store, getrags are a fine transmission, mine has 294k guy i got the truck from said it was rebuilt but did not seem like it.

my other truck i rebuilt the trans and welded the case up to do it and it is fine so far, it made it to 228k before i rebuilt it.

My 92 had a 13" in it. I replaced it with a Valair 13" when the reman Sachs took a dive. Still have the old pressure plate laying at the farm.

my getrag (which i don't have anymore) had a 13" clutch in it. if the one you have is a getrag the 12.25" is the wrong size.

12.25" is like what advance auto would sell you.

They sell Genuine 13" Sach's clutches on EBay.

I'd just buy a Southbend or an aftermarket clutch so you can add whatever kinda power you want down to the road and it'll hold.

I have a NV4500 in my truck and the PO was using a reman Sachs in it, until the plate came apart causing the clutch to be real grabby when disengaged. So, I now have a Valair 13" clutch in there, good prive and good reliability.

The original Fichtel & Sachs was a 13" with a bronze pilot bushing which wore out quickly when the aluminum bellhouse sagged and allowed several thousandths misalignment. Chrysler should have supported it to prevent flexing.

If the flywheel's pilot hole is substantially bigger than 1" it may have been remachined for a REAL bearing.

And don't re-use an old throwout fork and pivot ball. Changin' 'em once you have the trans in is a edit
