What did you do to your Gen 1 today?
The weather is perfect for me to start sanding and putting rusty metal primer on. However I broke 3 bones in my left foot last Saturday. Standing and sanding would not be a fun thing.
This weekend was productive! Been slowly cleaning up the farm since my dad passed away in '24 and after the historical flood of '25. This weekend my brother and I determined to get his '78 Ramcharger started and out of the barn so we could get to dad's 1993 Club Cab W250 CTD with the Getrag and 125,xxx miles on it that he bought new in '94. The only new vehicle he ever bought in his life.
I've lived in these river bottoms since 1971 and the back water never got into our tobacco barn until last spring. It was over the axles and just an inch or two shy of the top of the wheels. The barn sits on a high spot so once they re-estimated the crest (for like the 10th time!) it was too late for us to get anything out of the barn as access was already gone under 10-12' of water. So everything got wet...
With a new battery in the RC, I poured gas into the carb top to fill the bowl and some down the throat. The key just clicked and jumping the relay didn't do any better so we figured the starter had rusted up. I had a new one in the box as a spare for my M880 so we bolted that one on and after spinning over a few times it fired up and purred. Added 3 pints of tranny fluid and drove it out (had to keep refilling the bowl).
Next was dad's CTD! I disconnected the FSS and with a new battery spun it over a bit to get the oil circulating. It was last registered in 2014! After I topped off the master cylinder I reconnected the FSS and it fired right off just as if it had been run the day before! I drove it out and then into the barn by his house (which is a little higher) so we can work on it easier. The brake/anti-lock light was on and the fuel gauge wasn't working. I need to check all the fluids, add more fresh diesel and clean it up real good before driving it much.
Next will be the '73 Duster still in the barn...
I have pictures but can't post unless someone volunteers to let me email them to them.

Definitely!
It had been nagging at me (one of the many). Mainly the fact that it just sat and waited. Fortunately my brother lives in the house we grew up in so he could walk down and start it up, maybe drive it down the road a bit occasionally. But that stopped several years ago when he parked his topless RC in front of it and the fuel pump went out. So they both just sat... He did open the bed cover so the barn cats could prowl for mice in there...
The headliner started to fail while dad still drove it but other than that it is mostly pristine. He only drove it in the snow (and thus salt) once.
It's an SE with the rubber floor mat, captain chairs and the factory tach. He added double tube bumpers and an after market grill painted black to match the exterior. About all it needs is the dowel pin killed and should be ready to roll. He put a smaller turbo housing on it but I don't remember any other mods. It's way more fun to drive the stick than my auto! The only thing I don't like about it (other than the hard bed cover) is the open diff. It can spin out on flat grass if you're not careful. I'd like to add a posi...
I can't tell you the number of Power Wagons we drug home with that thing. From Vermont, Massachusetts, Montana, Virginia, NY and more. Lots of good memories...

Yea, I plan to check them out and see. I'm hoping since the truck was just sitting and cold, just like the water, that nothing seeped in. Now if it had just been parked after being run or gotten stuck in a creek and the gears, seals, etc were hot/warm, the cooling effect of the water could have snuck in some seals for sure. Plus it was no where near the breather tubes. But yea, better safe than sorry. Most worried about the axle tubes. I took Wednesday off so I hope to get a better look at the running gear now that it's out of that old dark barn... I'll pump some new grease in the u-joints, check the pumpkins and probably the hubs as well.
And thanks Nonrev for helping a Luddite out. Hopefully you can get those pictures posted for me!

Hopefully not the case with your dad's CTD.
I drove it the 1.5 miles to my place. Front diff was fine, rear was a little milky so I'll at least drain and refill the rear. Or maybe just go ahead and put a limited-slip in there!
Fuel gauge is working again so everything is functional but I think the booster is shot maybe. Vacuum lines look good to it. I have brakes but the pedal doesn't come up and get hard when I start it and the "brake" light and "Anti-lock" light stay on.
Other than that, I just need new wipers, reattach the rearview mirror and the "new" Michelins are showing their age with sidewall cracks. And I never got around to killing the dowel pin while dad had it...
